Lady Mustangs squeeze out road win at LC-M

LITTLE CYPRESS – The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs went on the road and snagged a 41-40 District 22-4A victory over the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears Friday night at The Grove.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout but the Lady Mustangs (15-9, 4-2) were able to hang on at the end to turn back the Lady Bears (12-9, 1-5).

Lady Mustang sophomore Aniah Henderson hit the game-winning bucket with just three seconds remaining to propel the Lady Mustang victory.

The Lady Mustangs led 13-12 at the end of the first quarter but the Lady Bears scrapped back to lead 22-20 at intermission.

LC-M held a 30-29 edge heading into the fourth but the Lady Mustangs won the last quarter 12-10.

Keshaunia Winbush led the WO-S arsenal with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Henderson finished with seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

Marlandria Hebert notched eight points and snared nine boards while B’Jne Arvie had seven points and nine rebounds.

Zaria Johnson paced the Lady Bears with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals. Chelsea Perry had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Brittany Wyatt notched seven points and 11 boards.

The Lady Mustangs will venture to Lumberton Tuesday to face the Lady Raiders while the Lady Bears travel to Silsbee.

In other 22-4A action Friday night Lumberton (18-9, 5-1) defeated Bridge City (16-10, 2-4) 56-39 and first-place Hardin-Jefferson (19-8, 6-0) downed Silsbee (14-9, 3-3) 78-40.
