Bears hold back Bridge City, 52-46

LITTLE CYPRESS – The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears snagged a 52-46 District 22-4A victory over the Bridge City Cardinals at The Grove Tuesday night.

The Bears (13-11, 2-1) looked to take command over the Cardinals (10-15, 0-4) early as they led 8-4 after the first quarter and then went on a 18-9 tear in the second quarter to lead 26-13 at the half.

The Cardinals, behind Grant Boudreaux, scratched their way back in it nicely, outscoring the Bears 15-5 in the third period to pull to within 31-28 entering the fourth.

The Cardinals would tie it at 39-39 but the Bears went on a 12-4 spurt to build a 51-43 edge.

Scout Denman scored all nine of his points for the Bears in the fourth quarter. Jackson Smith led the Bears with 18 points, seven of them coming in the fourth.

Jesse Doucette had eight points for LC-M while Ben Elliott added six.

Boudreaux filtered in a game-high 20 points for the Cardinals. Austin Richardson filtered in 10 points while Ethan Oceguera added six.

The Bears will visit West Orange-Stark Friday while the Cardinals return home to face Lumberton.
