To The Leader

For several years now, the Vidor Rotary Club has sponsored, with the help of generous local donors, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.  In the program, children from birth to age five receive a free book in the mail each month.

The books, chosen by Dolly Parton, are age-appropriate, colorful, and encourage a child to learn to love reading.

Children are ‘graduated’ from the program when they reach their fifth birthday, according to Vidor Rotary Club President Gayle Nagai.

“But by that time, children begin having access to school libraries,” Nagai said. “We are so happy to read children with books because we know reading at a young age is vital to the development of a child’s brain.”

The books are not targeted to any certain socio-economic level; anyone can sign up.

Registration cards are available at the Vidor Public Library.

To sponsor a child costs a mere $25 a year, and sponsors are always needed.

Churches, businesses and individuals may sponsor by mailing a check to Vidor Rotary Club, P.O. Box 10, Vidor, TX 77670.

The Rotary Club has given out over 10,000 books to date in conjunction with the program.
