Bobcats nab intense OT battle against Longhorns

ORANGEFIELD – In an intensity-filled battle, the Orangefield Bobcats nabbed a huge win at their own Tennison Tournament by knocking off the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 58-56 in overtime Friday.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout, but it was the Bobcats that came up with huge plays in the overtime session to take down the Longhorns.

Point guard Clayson Choate got the Bobcats going in the extra session by scoring the first four points as the Bobcats snagged a 51-47 lead.

The Longhorns kept scrapping back, getting as close as two points three more times but Orangefield was able to hold them at bay. Peyton Wrinkle had four big points in overtime and buried two critical free-throws. The Bobcats had a 58-53 lead and the Longhorns got a late three-pointer by Colin Dorsey at the buzzer to make it a two-point final.

Dorsey led all scorers with 23 points.

The Bobcats used plenty of balance to nail down the victory.

Coy Bryant was the only double-figure scorer for the Bobcats as he finished with 13 points and hit a pair of three-pointers.

Bobcat post Daniel Durbin notched eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Bryce Bergeron and Kaiden DuBose tallied eight points apiece. Chaote filled up the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds and six steals while Wrinkle had six points.

Demarcus Jones had 12 points for the Longhorns after he sank four three-point shots. Bryce Ricks had seven rebounds for H-F while Reggie Coleman had five.

Chase Brussard put the Bobcats up 47-45 with 0:10 in regulation after sinking two free-throws but Dorsey forced the extra session after he converted a slashing drive on the other end with 0:02 left.

The Bobcats led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and 24-21 at intermission. H-F trimmed it to 39-37 entering the fourth.

The Bobcats finished with a 30-29 rebounding edge. Orangefield committed just 11 turnovers while H-F had 19. Orangefield was 14-of-23 from the free-throw line while H-F went just 9-of-21.

The West Orange-Stark Mustangs downed the Nederland JV 66-51.

Labarius Spraggins paced the Mustangs with 17 points. Jalon Ross had nine points while Quintin Proctor and Quincy Ledet had eight points apiece.
