Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a shooting at a residence on Farm to Market Road 2626 in Newton, where one subject had been shot.

Upon arrival deputies observed a male subject with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The victim was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment and later died from his injury.

The investigation is ongoing.
