Anne Payne/The Orange Leader

A dozen members attended the review by David Payne of “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough.  Seated in front is reviewer Payne, whose passion appears to be reading lots of books.  From left are Sandra Cash, Diane Sturdivant, Linda Pittillo, Sarah Boehme, Diane Grooters, Katie Barry, and Joan Tharp, all of Orange, and Tom Watson of Bridge City.  Not pictured are Anne Payne, Lois Ferrell, and Karen McKinney, all of Orange.  The painting of Astronaut John Glenn in the background was done in the early 1960s by Anne Payne’s late uncle, Hall M. Mitchell of Midwest City, Oklahoma, the official historical flight painter at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma.  Mitchell was recognized for his love of flying in the U.S. Navy and had a deep respect for the Wright Brothers.
