HOOP ROUNDUP: Cardinals stroll past Kountze

BRIDGE CITY – After trailing at the half, the Bridge City Cardinals shot “lights out” in the second half Tuesday afternoon as they zapped the Kountze Lions 72-54 at Cardinal Gym in non-district action.

The Cardinals (2-1) trailed the Lions 28-27 at intermission but poured it on starting in the third quarter.

Bridge City fired in nine-three pointers in the second half and buried 13 treys for the game.

The Cardinals outscored the Lions 19-8 in the third quarter and 26-18 in the fourth to pull away.

Austin Richardson led the Cardinal arsenal with 21 points and nine rebounds. He had four three-pointers, three of them in the second half in which he scored 12 points.

Gabe Castillo filtered in 18 points and snared six boards for the Cardinals. He had three three-pointers and scored 13 of his points after the half.

Grant Boudreaux caught fire for the Redbirds in the second half. He finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. He had four three-point missiles, three of them in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals began to pull away.

Kountze trimmed it to 43-36 late in the third but Cardinal Dylan Collazo hit a big three-pointer near the buzzer to put Bridge City back up by 10 by the end of the period.

JaQuade Warren had a big outing for the Lions with a double-double. He finished with 31 points and 16 rebounds, scoring 16 of his points in the final period.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter but the Lions led 15-13 at the end of the period.

Bridge City outscored the Lions 14-13 in the second quarter to trim it to one at the half.

Warren had 10 first-half points for the Lions and Richardson had nine for the Cardinals.

Kountze finished with a 43-37 rebounding edge. The Cardinals had 20 turnovers while the Lions had 19. Bridge City was 7-of-14 from the free-throw line while Kountze was 11-of-19.

Bryson Constance had nine points for the Cardinals while Ray Epperly had five rebounds.

Post Taylor Jones had eight points and five boards for the Lions. Micah Depew had six points on two three-pointers while Kash Hagon pulled down eight rebounds.

The Cardinals return to action Dec. 3 when they play host to Kirbyville.

 

LC-M boys

HUFFMAN – The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears fell to the Huffman Falcons 62-51 in non-district hoop action at Falcon Gym Tuesday.

The Huffman win offset a nice performance from LC-M’s Jesse Doucette. Doucette powered the Bears (1-3) with 25 points.

Jackson Smith and Brendon Brones scored 10 points apiece for LC-M.

Jacob Harvey filtered in a game-high 30 points for the Falcons while Christian Oliphont added 11.

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they visit Liberty to take on the Panthers.

 

OF girls

VIDOR – The Orangefield Lady Bobcats hammered the Vidor Lady Pirates 74-23 Tuesday at Pirate Gym.

Jacey Bourque had a big double-double for the Lady Bobcats, who outscored Vidor 22-1 in the first quarter. Bourque finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.

Faith Fregia had 20 points and four rebounds for the Lady Bobcats. Harleigh Rawls pumped in 11 points. Madison Greenway posted six points and seven rebounds while Joli Ponfick had four points and eight boards.

The Lady Bobcats will visit West Orange-Stark Tuesday.
