WEEKEND HOOP ROUNDUP: Lady Bears, Cats fare well

LC-M girls

KOUNTZE – The LC-M Lady Bears kicked off their basketball campaign with a 57-44 victory over the Kountze Lady Lions.

The Lady Bears went on a 15-7 run in the first quarter and a 23-13 spurt in the second quarter to take command.

Chelsea Perry and Britney Wyatt led the Lady Bears with 17 points apiece while Amber Lester and Zaria Johnson added six points each.

McCallion led Kountze with 11 points while Thrower and Martin added 10 apiece.

The Lady Bears will host Legacy Tuesday.

 

OF girls

LUMBERTON – The Orangefield Lady Bobcats wrapped up the Lumberton Tournament with a 4-2 mark.

On Saturday the Lady Bobcats (4-3) nabbed wins over PN-G (64-52) and Vidor (66-26).

Faith Fregia, who as All-Tournament, scored 22 points in the win over PN-G. Jacey Bourque had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Harleigh Rawls contributed 11 points and four rebounds. Maddie Greenway had nine points and six boards while Joli Ponfick had six assists.

Fregia had 21 points in the victory over Vidor. Bourque had 16 points, five steals and four rebounds. Ponfick had 12 points and three steals. Rawls chimed in with seven points and four rebounds while Greenway had seven boards.

On Friday, the Lady Bobcats (4-3) dropped a pair of tough games to Barbers Hill (58-30) and Tomball (64-34).

Against Barbers Hill, Bourque had seven points. Fregia had six points while Ponfick and Kenadie Dubois had five points each.

Against Tomball, Bourque poured in 10 points and swiped six steals. Fregia had 10 points. Greenway had six boards while Ponfick hauled in five.

 

WO-S boys

KOUNTZE – The West Orang-Stark Mustangs fell to the Kountze Lions 71-63 in the season opener for both teams Saturday.

Jalon Ross had a nice double-double for the Mustangs, scoring 17 points while snagging 14 rebounds and swiping three steals.

Labarius Spraggins contributed 15 points and eight rebounds while Bran Keller also scored 15 points.

Adrian Crochet Hernandez had seven points, five assists and four steals while Aidan Crochet Hernandez had six points.

 

OF boys

VIDOR – The Orangefield Bobcats fell to the Vidor Pirates 56-53 in the opener for both teams Saturday.

Payton Wrinkle paced the Bobcats with 19 points. Bryce Bergeron notched 16 points and seven rebounds and Coy Bryant added nine points and four assists.
