Newton Sheriff’s Report 11.18.19

PRESS RELEASE — Let me start off by asking you to remember the Glenn Blank family in your prayers. Glenn was the Chief Deputy for Sheriff Newman in Jasper County. We lost Glenn last week to a long illness. He will be missed by many.

We received a report of a theft where a welding machine was stolen. The company that owned it had a tracking device on it. It took us to a house just north of Deweyville. The welding machine was in a man’s garage with an open door in plain view. Thief thought we needed a search warrant. We didn’t. Recovered stolen welding machine, thief goes to jail. Great job to Deputy Blakeney. Those tracking devices are great.

Wife dropped off her husband at his trailer (they live separately) and he got mad. He cut her tires where she couldn’t leave. Deputy finally got it all settled.

More calls about people shooting guns near people’s homes. One lady found a bullet hole in her house. Please be careful where you are shooting. This has gotten to be a problem.

Received a call from a man whose deer stand broke with him in it and he took a bad fall. Thankfully he was able to give good directions to his location. He ended up being flown by helicopter to the hospital. Thanks to Burkeville Fire and Newton Fire for all the help.

Deputy Blueitt received a call from a homeowner in reference to a 4-wheeler on his property. The 4-wheeler was reported stolen a couple of months back. Due to Deputy Blueitt’s surveillance Newton County was able to recover items amounting to several thousand dollars. Investigation is ongoing.

Gotta go. Thought for the week: Every day may not be good. But there is something good in every day. Ya’ll have a great week and if we can help, just holler: God Bless
