LIVINGSTON – The Bridge City Cardinals nailed down their first District 11-4A Division I win of the season by downing the Livingston Lions 14-8 Friday night at Lions Stadium.

The Cardinals (2-6, 1-3) still have a chance to make the postseason after the win over the Lions (3-5, 0-4). Splendora (5-3, 2-2) defeated Lumberton (5-3, 2-2) 14-7 Friday night.

Bridge City will host Splendora next week and a win by the Cardinals could keep them in the hunt for a spot if things fall their way.

De’Brian Rains gave the Lions an early 6-0 lead when he bolted into the end zone from six yards out.

The Cardinals lost sophomore quarterback Ethan Oceguera to an injury early in the contest.

The Cardinals, however, responded when backup senior quarterback Colby Collins scored on a one-yard touchdown keeper. Kicker Oscar Carranza booted the extra-point to give the Cardinals a 7-6 edge.

Tailback Rylan Ply pushed the Cardinal lead up to 14-6 when he scooted in for a touchdown from 10 yards out.

The Cardinals gave up a late safety to the Lions late in the game but a Cardinal interception helped seal the victory.

The Lions will visit Huffman in their season finale.
