Smith, Lady Cardinals nab 22-4A CC titles

VIDOR – It was a banner day for the Bridge City Lady Cardinals Thursday morning as they captured the District 22-4A Cross Country team title at the District 22-4A Cross Country Championships at Claiborne West Park on a very wet and sloppy terrain.
The Lady Cardinals, sparked by Kaylen Smith’s first-place finish, edged the Lumberton Lady Raiders by three points to nab the team title.
The Lady Cardinals finished with 34 points. Lumberton had 37 while Hamshire-Fannett and Silsbee each had 67.
On the boys’ side, Silsbee brought home the team title with 47 points, followed by Lumberton (65), West Orange-Stark (66), Bridge City (68), Hamshire-Fannett (118) and Hardin-Jefferson (150).
Lumberton’s Beau Waldrup won the boys race, winning the 5,000-K course in 17 minutes, 38.40 seconds.
Bridge City’s Caden Shaw was second with a time of 18:12.30.
The top three teams go to regionals along with the top 10 finishers. The WO-S boys qualified for the regionals as a team for the first time in nearly 16 years.
Smith cruised to victory in the girls’ race, covering the two-mile course in 12:49.90. She was followed by Lady Cardinal teammates Erika Needham (third, 13:23.70), Brooklin Sheffield (ninth, 13:44.80), Kaelyn Guillory (13th, 14:26.80), Cris Labatos (15th, 14:27.70), Ashlyn Dunigan (16th, 14:52.50) and Kristen Chen (31st, 18:20.30).
LC-M’s Anabelle Fisher was fourth with a 13:27.00 followed by teammates Robyn Courmier (fifth, 13:40.40) and Miranda Keltz (30th, 17:20.30).
Edid Baldera paced WO-S, finishing 21st with a 15;32.30 while teammate Imani Johnson was 35th with a 26:03.20.
Adfter Shaw for the Cardinal boys, he was followed by Kyler Young (sixth, 19:17.80), Kaden Garlaska (11th, 19:50.00), Alex Nieto (15th, 20:28.00) and Ayden Sanders (37th, 23:25.20).
Aidan Crochet-Hernandez led WO-S, finishing eighth with a 19:35.80. He was followed by teammates Adrian Crochet-Hernandez (10th, 19:45.30), Maleki St. Julien (14th, 20:20.50), Kaleb Istre (16th, 20:33.50), Myron Griffin (19th, 20:49.00), Uriel Galvan (23rd, 21:12.60) and Bryan Keller (38th, 23:31.30).
For LC-M, Chase Fisher was 17th with a 20:47 followed by teammates Blake Marshall (32nd, 22:52.10), Ryan Foreman (33rd, 22:52.20) and Jonathan Butler (40th, 23:55.90).
