Bobcats have big day at District CC Meet; Helm, Wrinkle nab first-places

WARREN – The Orangefield Cross County tams had a supreme effort Monday in a huge showing at the District 22-3A Cross Country Championships in Warren.

Lady Bobcat Maddison Helm and Bobcat Payton Wrinkle each brought home individual titles.

Both teams will also advance to the 3A Region III Championships after the Bobcat boys took the team title and the Lady Bobcats earned third-place for coach Stephanie Goldsmith.

On the boys’ side, Wrinkle covered the 5,000-K course in 18 minutes and 42 seconds to storm to first-place. He was followed by teammates Dylan Wells (seventh, 20:35), Bryce Moore (eighth, 20:36), Leyton Loft (ninth, personal best, 20:40), Tanner Sullivan (10th, 20:49, personal best), Brayden Babin (14th, 21:14, personal best) and David Arzola (15th, 21:54). There were 47 runners in the boys race.

On the girls’ side, Helm cruised to victory, covering the two-mile terrain in 13:30. She was followed by teammates Gracie Castro (16th, 15:55), Draven Crochet (17th, 16:11), Sally Crosby (22nd, 16:44) and Kira Merendino (27th, 17:09).

The Bobcat teams will compete in the 3A Region III Championships Oct. 28 in Huntsville.
