To The Leader

The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting South East and Beaumont residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, October 12 at The Event Centre 700 Crockett St. Beaumont, TX 77701.   Registration is at 8 am, opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and the Walk begins at 9 a.m.

KFDM reporter Angel San Juan will serve as emcee.

On Walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with Promise Flowers during the poignant Promise Garden Ceremony – a moving display of hope to represent the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s.

Shanna Briggs, Alzheimer’s Association Walk Manager, says the South East/Beaumont walk brings everyone together to fight a common cause.

“Nearly 400 thousand Texans are living with Alzheimer’s disease,” Briggs said.  “Texas ranks 4th in the number of Alzheimer’s cases and 2nd in Alzheimer’s deaths in the nation.  Seeing Beaumont put its muscle into the national fight is one of the most gratifying things you will ever witness.”

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 16 million family members and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Texas, there are more than 390,000 people living with the disease and 1.4 million caregivers.

Participants can join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk.
