A fish fry for a special cause

A fundraiser for Special Angels is Thursday at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center located at 11475 FM 1442 in Orange.

The Special Angels Rodeo Fish Fry and Auction Fundraiser is the major event to raise money for the annual rodeo for those with special needs. This is the 6th year for the rodeo but the fifth year for the fundraiser.

“We missed one year due to Harvey,” Jo Harris said.

An exciting night of delicious food and plenty of hot ticket items up for bid. Robert’s Steak House is catering the menu featuring fried fish or grilled chicken, and all the fixings.

With live and silent auctions, several raffles, and a dessert auction, there is something for everyone to get excited about.

“Every penny raised is so we can put on the rodeo and stay true to our mission,” Harris said.

The mission of the Orange County Special Angels Rodeo shall be to promote, organize, and produce a fully adaptive rodeo and western heritage events specifically for any person with special needs. The rodeo and events shall be conducted by members and volunteers in a loving, Christian manner that promotes safety, fun and positive encouragement for all involved. 

Some of the many items for auction include a cabin getaway, swamp tours, airboat rides, a personal chef meal with entertainment, and an autographed, framed picture of Dallas Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott.

“We also have gun raffles,” Harris added. “We have four pistols and a .308”

One item is 14 bottles of Crown Royal, offering all the flavors available is 750 ml.

“We also have door prizes and a kid-friendly ‘auction’. They put their ticket in a bucket for the item,” Harris said. 

Special Angels Rodeo is 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at T2 Arena and Event Center located at 3810 Old Peveto Road in Orange.

Special Angels Rodeo Annual Fish Fry and Auction Fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 and it will be moving to Orange County Convention and Expo Center on Farm to Market Road 1442 in Orange. Tickets are just $75 for two people or $40 for an individual. Tickets will be available at the door.
