Lady Bears down Lady Cardinals in three in 22-4A action

BRIDGE CITY – Though every game was definitely contested, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears swept the Bridge City Lady Cardinals 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 in District 22-4A volleyball action at Cardinal Gym Monday night.

The two Orange County rivals were suppose to play last Friday until Tropical Storm Imelda cancelled it.

Both teams used balanced attacks to try to thwart one another but it was the Lady Bears (2-1 in district) that had the final answer against the young Lady Cardinals (1-3 in district).

Trinity Williams paced the Lady Bears attack with a match-high 12 kills. Alyssa Ammons chimed in with nine kills for LC-M while Chelsea Perry, Olivia Hogan and Zoe Levens each had three kills apiece.

Aspen Daniels sparked the Lady Cardinal arsenal with eight kills while Taryn Doiron and Daelyn Perry had seven apiece and Harlee Tupper added five.

Brielle Butler served up a match-high 11 service points to go along with two aces for the Lady Bears.

Caitlin Woods had seven points and two aces. Williams had six points while Perry had five points and three aces and Levens contributed four points.

Waverlee Cooper led Bridge City with seven service points to go along with two kills. Tupper had six points and three aces while Kyndall Harrison added four points and an ace.

The Lady Bears stormed out of the gate in Game One, racing out to a commanding 21-10 edge. The Lady Cardinals rallied all the way back to within 24-20 before LC-M was able to put it away.

LC-M once again led throughout most of Game Two with their biggest lead being 21-16 before they fended off the Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Bears once again controlled Game Three midway through it and built a 16-10 cushion on their way to nabbing the three-game win.

The Lady Bears will visit West Orange-Stark Tuesday with the JV starting at 6 p.m. while the Lady Cardinals will make a trek to Lumberton.
