Newton County Sheriff’s report 9.16.19

PRESS RELEASE — We stayed bowed up all week. Nothing too serious. Let’s see what it was all about.
We received a report of a stolen backhoe out of Beaumont. We got it recovered down in the southend. The GPS on it led us close to where it was. I wish all the tractors, 4 wheelers and side by sides had GPS. Some do, some don’t.
A friend of mine said he told a scammer on the phone he was Billy Rowles, Newton County Sheriff. The phone went dead. Anytime you get these phone calls, feel free to use my name. Good job Bubba.
Arrested a man for cleaning out a house that he said was his. Wrong. It belongs to a lady in Dallas. We arrested him and took him to jail. Upon arrival here, he had a medical problem and went to the hospital in Lufkin.
We had several calls this week where someone was hurt on ATV’s. They are fun to ride but you have to be very careful.
Several calls where small fires got out of control. Please be careful when you are burning trash.
Gotta go. Thought for the week: When a man opens a car door for a woman, it’s either a new car or a new wife. Ya’ll have a good weekend. If we can help, just holler. God Bless.
