NWS Lake Charles tropical update: 1 pm 9.10.19

Published 1:59 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2019

PRESS RELEASE — We will be monitoring a tropical disturbance currently north of Haiti/Dominican Republic this week.  This area is expected move northwest into the northeast or north central Gulf by this weekend.  There is 30 percent chance for this system to develop into at least a tropical depression, especially when this disturbance emerges in the Gulf.  At this time, we are expecting slightly higher rain chances as this system approaches this weekend.

Elsewhere, a tropical wave over the south central Atlantic will continue moving westward and arrive in the eastern Caribbean this weekend.  This system bears watching as well, but at this time it is not expected to develop significantly through the weekend.
We will continue to provide daily updates on these systems until they are no longer threats to our region.

As a reminder, today (September 10) is climatologically considered the peak day of hurricane season.  As the attached graphic shows, while we will be at the highest level today, the hurricane season can remain quite active even well into October.
