Rose City man indicted for possession of a controlled substance

A Rose City man was indicted on Wednesday by the Jefferson County Grand Jury for possession of a controlled substance for an incident which occurred at 10:45 p.m. on February 20, 2019 on Nederland Avenue in Jefferson County.

A trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding. During the stop, he asked the driver, Wyatt Paul Phillips, 65, of Rose City, for consent to search the vehicle. 

Phillips refused. 

The trooper then requested a K9 for the vehicle.

The K9 gave a positive alert to the driver’s door. A small bag of methamphetamine was located between the driver’s seat and the center console, according to an affidavit for the arrest warrant.

‘A usable amount’ of marijuana was located between the passenger’s seat and the center console. 

Phillips was arrested for the offenses, State jail felony.

An indictment is not be considered as evidence of guilt and that all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
