To The Leader

Fill the Bus, an annual Vidor event to provide school supplies for Vidor children and youth will be held on Saturday, August 3 in the Vidor WalMart parking lot. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and will wrap up at 2 p.m.

Vidor ISD staff and students will be on hand at the yellow bus, collecting anything that’s on the school supply list.  Cash donations will also be accepted and come in especially helpful for purchasing those hard-to-find items such as nap mats, calculators, earbuds, and other things.

The Vidor Rotary Club and the Rotarians will be there with the green bus accepting donations of new or gently used jeans or jackets. These will be distributed to families at the Vidor United Christian Care Center for children and youth who need them as school begins.

Businesses or churches will sponsor windows on the yellow VISD bus, each contributing $100 to aid in purchasing supplies.

According to VHS principal James McDowell, who for many years has headed up the effort, “It’s great to see our town pull together to take care of our own.”

Fill the Bus replaces the D.E.S.K. program, which for many years was provided by McDonald’s before being discontinued.
