Newton County Sheriff’s report 7.8.19

PRESS RELEASE — Hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday. If you have never been to Toledo Bend off Recreational Road 255 for their parade, you are missing out. What a great parade. Nothing but ATV’s. They dress them up.

We received a call from the Pine Grove community about a man’s garden being robbed. Seems someone went in his garden and picked all of his pinto beans. When we catch the thief, those will be the most expensive pintos you have ever eaten.

We had a 911 call from the Big Cow Creek area. Two adults and a child were stranded. Their kayaks got hung up in a log jam. Deep, swift water kept them from getting to the bank. Trout Creek Fire Department and Deputy Blueitt came to the rescue. The people were retrieved safely. Great job to all who helped.

Things got crazy Sunday evening with a car chase that started in Angelina County, through Jasper County, and ended up in Newton County. Lots of officers involved. Speeds of 100 mph plus. These things are so scary and so dangerous. Our officers got the driver stopped at Court Street and Rusk Street here in Newton. Nobody hurt, “that’s a blessing”, and a female driver goes to jail.

Gotta go. Have Commissioners Court this morning. Thought for the week: When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Ya’ll have a great week and if we can help, just holler. God Bless.
