To The Leader

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Monthly releases a biennial Best and Worst Legislators list following each legislative session, this week Representative Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) made this list as one of the Best Legislators of the 86th Legislative Session.

In the article Texas Monthly recognizes Representative Phelan for his accomplishments as Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee, which voted out over 160 bills during the legislative session. The article also commends Phelan’s legislation from the 86th Legislature including his leadership on the monumental Hurricane Harvey relief package that appropriated approximately $1.8 billion from the state’s Rainy Day Fund. The magazine went on to say: “He successfully managed one of the largest workloads this session, defanged some of the most controversial legislation, and still emerged with the reputation of being a gentleman —a rare moniker in the fight club that is the Legislature.”

“I am honored to be recognized as one of the best legislators of the 86th Legislative Session. The work that the House State Affairs Committee did this session gives me great pride and it was an honor to lead the committee,” said Representative Dade Phelan. “My goal as a State Representative is always to represent House District 21 to the best of my ability, and to find solutions to our greatest challenges as a state.”

Representative Phelan is serving his third term in the Texas House of Representatives. He proudly serves House District 21, representing both Jefferson and Orange Counties. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on State Affairs.
