A man confirmed he was in possession of synthetic narcotics during a traffic stop at approximately 9 p.m. on Friday near the 900 block of 6th Street in Orange.

An Orange police officer stopped the vehicle due to a defective license plate light and asked all four occupants to step out of the vehicle.

While searching one passenger, identified as Michael Haynes, the officer found a black bag containing a clear bag of a leafy substance.

Haynes confirmed the substance was synthetic.

He was placed into custody for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2A.

At the jail, Haynes said he had a ‘blunt’ on his person. He turned it over the officer.

The driver was issued a citation for the traffic violation and the other occupants were released at the scene.
