Matt Pace announced his resignation as Hamshire-Fannett boys basketball head coach on Twitter Thursday.
Pace, a former Lamar men’s basketball director of operations, said he stepped down to spend more time with his daughter, Brooklyn. The decision was not easy to make, he wrote, but he expressed that the past school year was a “major time commitment” to football, basketball and track.
“At the end of the day my daughter is the most important thing in my life and not seeing her nearly enough has brought me to this decision,” Pace wrote.
He continued: “I love H-F. It truly is a phenomenal place to teach and coach. I wish them nothing but success. But my number one job and most important job I’ll ever have is being Brooklyn’s father. I am truly thankful to the administration and all the staff members that helped me throughout the year. Whoever gets this position will have a lot of great talented kids coming up. There is no telling what the future holds, but for now I don’t need to be a head coach. I need to be a dad.”
