Commissioners Court approved the request of $5,000 for a hotel occupancy fund requested by The Oaks Event Center, on Tuesday.

The center is located in Vidor and the funds are to help with their grand opening event, a Veteran Tribute on June 14-15.

The new event center will be open to be rented by the public for any events from music to weddings. The new venue will be able to bring more people to the area helping other neighboring businesses.

The court also discussed the Bassmaster Elite Fishing event to be held in June 2020. This will be the fourth Bassmasters event to be held in Orange and will be attracting many people and vendors into the area for the event.

The court approved the Hotel Occupancy Fund requested by The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce of $100,000 for the event.

Before the event will be able to take place, the organization will have to raise an additional $40,000 through sponsorships and renting booths out to vendors.

With the Bassmasters event being well known in the area, Commissioner John H. Gothia of Precinct 3 said the event will be good for the area and the economy.
