Early voting for Run-off election starts Monday

Polls open at 8:30 a.m. Monday for early voting in the run-off election for City of Orange Council Member Place 4 and Council Member Place 5 – At Large.

In the May 4, 2019 election, for Council Member Place 4, Mary McKenna had 140 votes giving her 49.12-percent of the vote as she challenged incumbent Annette Pernell. Pernell had 100 votes giving her 35.09-percent of the vote.

As neither had the 51-percent needed to be declared victorious in the three-way race, a run-off is required.

The other opponent, Alan Mesecher, received 15.79-percent of the votes during the May 4 election.

The same happened in the four-way race for Council Member Place 5 – At Large.

Caroline Mazzola Hennigan had the most votes with 402, giving her 39.33-percent of the votes against incumbent Bill Mello who had 293 votes, 28.67-percent of the votes.

Charles Ray Thomas and David C. Bailey also ran in the race.

Early voting will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday from June 3 – June 11, 2019, at the Orange Public Library at 220 North 5th Street in Orange. Tuesday, June 4 and June 11 will have extended hours with the polls open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Election Day is June 15, 2019.

For those who will be on vacation during the early election and election day will need to contact the Orange County Election Administration at 409-882-7973 to apply for mail in ballots. Mail in ballots are not automatically sent out on years primaries are not held.
