When one is 25 and a young mother, a medical crisis is the last thing on one’s mind.

However, with the onset of a headache on October 11, 2018, Shalyn Droddy and her family discovered how quickly life can take an unexpected turn.

The headache led to Shalyn slurring her words and blanking out. Doctors were able to determine she suffered a stroke due to hemorrhaging from several blood clots in her brain.

She was transferred to Memorial Hermann Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit where her husband remained by her side.

Shalyn continues to suffer from blood clots in her brain and has yet to have her skull cap replaced after the initial surgery in Oct 2018.

A barbecue fundraiser and birthday celebration is being held for Jonathan and Shalyn Droddy from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Eastgate Family Life Center located at 290 South Street in Vidor.

Plate lunches will include a link or boudin, chips, and a drink for $6 a plate.

A Winchester Automatic 12 Gauge will be raffled off with tickets at $5 each.

During the event, a LifeShare bus will be on hand for blood donations as well.
