LC-M’s Burke strolls to 4A State Golf title

KYLE — What a grand day it was for Little Cypress-Mauriceville sophomore golf standout Jack Burke as he strolled his way to the gold medal to win the Class 4A Boys State Golf crown at the Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle Tuesday afternoon.

After firing an opening round score of 71 on Monday, Burke improved by a shot on Tuesday with a sizzling 70 to finish with a two-round score of 141.

Burke won the tournament by two strokes. Argyle’s Logan Diomede was second with a 143 (74-69) after a nice second round while Carthage’s Miller Harris was third with a 144 (73-71).

Monahans captured the team title with a two-round 608 followed by Argyle (628) and Gatesville (639).

The LC-M team finished 12th overall with a 673 (346-327) but improved by 19 shots on Tuesday.

Following Burke for the Bears were Wyatt Wozniak (91-82-173), Jack Tindel (88-90-178), Mason Sterling (96-85-181) and Travis Love (101-106-207).
