Bloom, where you are planted, was the theme of the annual membership luncheon for the Service League of Orange on Thursday and the ladies showed they were spreading rays of sunshine throughout the community.

From working with CASA for the first time this year to returning to the Salvation Army, the ladies volunteered hours and raised funds to give back to the community.

“Three volunteers worked a total of 157 hours,” outgoing President Theresa Glidden said during the annual report.  “We feel this is a very worthwhile endeavor and I hope that our participation with CASA continues for many years.”

Glidden also was pleased to announce the League was working with Salvation Army again.

“This is near and dear to my heart,” Glidden said. “We stocked food that had been donated or purchased from other food banks into the food bank there at the Salvation Army in Orange for the ones that qualified. Four volunteers worked a total of 176.5 hours.  We also volunteered to

help with the bagging of toys at Christmas, working 106 hours.”

Glidden also spoke about returning to Fine Arts this year after having to miss two years.

“After missing last year and the year before because of Hurricane Harvey, we were

able to hit the ground running,” Glidden said. “We visited 1st and 4th grades at area schools were and able to see 1,300 students with a watercolor project for the 4th graders and the 1st graders did a sculpture.  Partnering with the Stark Museum of Art is, as always, such a pleasure. Looking forward, I hope we can continue this committee and its important service to the

students of Orange County.”

Glidden added children no longer have an art class in school.

“The only way to have art is for us bringing it to them,” Glidden said.

Orange Mayor Larry Spears Jr said the ladies were planting a seed.

“After hearing you ladies giving back in so many ways, you are establishing a seed,” Spears said.

Spears spoke on the gift people have inside them.

“Everything you have and need is already inside you,” Spears said. “We were created to give back to humanity, never for us to enjoy. God intended you to give back to humanity.”
