LC-M’s Peveto snags silver in 4A 3,200 meters

AUSTIN – Putting together an amazing run, Little Cypress-Mauriceville senior Eli Peveto claimed the silver medal in the Class 4A boys 3,200 meters at the UIL State Track & Field Championships Saturday morning at the University of Texas.

Peveto did his best to keep pace with state champion Judson Greer of Melissa as he turned in a sizzling time of 9:17.64.

Greer set a new Class 4A state record however, running a 9:06.00.

San Elizario’s Edwin Gomez was a distant third with a time of 9:31.46 to earn the bronze medal.

Orangefield freshman Katelynn Helm will look to continue to grow her aspiring future after competing in the girls Class 3A 800 meters Friday. Helm turned in a time of 2:17.49, which set a new Orangefield school record that she had already held after a superb regional performance, to place fifth in Austin.

Wall’s Jayden Fiebiger won the tight race with a 2:14.80 to earn gold while Little River Academy’s Jenna Brazeal was second with a 2:16.42 and White Oak’s Olivia Snipes was third with a 2:16. 81 as Helm was just less than a second away from snagging a medal.

Orangefield’s 1,600-meter relay team of Helm, Jaslyn Newman, Victoria Welch and Lily Saucedo placed ninth with a time of 4:13.46. East Bernard won the gold with a 3:56.18.
