To The Leader

World Champion Checkers Champion Alex Moiseyev has committed to playing in the Texas Open and District 8 ACF Checkers Championship to be held in Vidor, Texas on May 31-June1, 2019.
Moiseyev is the recognized 3-move champion having won the title previously held by Ron King of Barbados. Moiseyev was born and raised in Russia. He claimed the Junior Championship for four years in Russian Checkers.

He immigrated to the United States in 1991 and took up Anglo-American style of checkers, playing in the OH State Checkers tournament in Massillon and the USA National 3-Move Tournament in Danville, VA.

In 2003, Moiseyev was officially declared the World Checkers Champion by defeating King in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.  Moiseyev is one of the best Ambassadors that the game of Checkers has in the United States. He travels to many tournaments each year and has written much on the game.

His book, “Sixth”, is a favorite of many players. Moiseyey is respected not just as a player, but also as an example of good sportsmanship for all.
Vidorian Watson Franks, the ACF (American Checker Federation) District 8 Regional Director, is excited about having Moiseyev participate in this year’s tournament.

“Having Alex here this year will add a lot of Checkers recognition to our area,” Franks said. “The eyes of those who follow Checkers around the world will be upon this tournament.”

The tournament also expects to have several state champions from across the country participate for the title.

Franks is not just Director but is also the current Texas Checkers Champion for the second year in a row.

“This year will have the toughest competition we have ever had,” Franks said. “I plan to do my best and represent Southeast Texas to the best of my ability.”

District 8 is a 5-state area. The states include Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Kansas. The highest ranking finisher in the tournament from the 5-state area will be declared the District 8 Champion.

The Tournament will be held at the Holiday Inn Suite, 20691 Interstate 10 in Vidor, on May 31-June 1, 2019. There will be a Division for the higher level players and also a Division for the newer players.
