Possible bad weather has prompted changes for both the Bridge City and Orangefield area playoff matchups while Orangefield softball has remained the same.
The Bridge City Cardinals (20-9-2) will take on the Sweeny Bulldogs (22-7) in a best-of-three Class 4A Region III area round series Friday and Saturday.
Game One of the series will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Sweeny High School. Game Two will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bridge City High School. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.
The Cardinals knocked off Splendora 8-2 and 7-2 to capture their bidistrict series. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs, District 24-4A champions, hammered Houston Scarborough 17-0 in their bidistrict tilt. Sweeny was a state finalist last season.
The winner of the Bridge City-Columbia series will face either Liberty or Columbia in the regional quarterfinals next week.
The Orangefield Bobcats (18-10) will tangle with the New Waverly Bulldogs (19-8) in a best-of-three Class 3A Region III area round series.
Game One will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Sam Houston State. The Bobcats return closer to home Saturday with Game Two starting at noon at Bridge City’s Chuck Young Field followed by Game Three, if necessary.
The Bobcats devoured Corrigan-Camden 10-2 and 10-0 in their bidistrict series last week. New Waverly, District 23-3A champions, canned Tidehaven 14-0.
The Orangefield-New Waverly winner will face either Van Vleck or Pollok Central in the regional quarterfinals next week.
The Orangefield Lady Bobcats will look to continue their dominance in Region III softball as they will face the Danbury Lady Panthers in a best-of-three series in the Class 3A Region III quarterfinals.
All games will be played at Crosby High School.
Game One will be Friday at 7 p.m. Game Two will be Saturday at 3 p.m. and Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.
The Lady Bobcats (23-8) blanked New Waverly 6-0 last week after downing Corrigan-Camden 6-3 in the bidistrict round.
Danbury (24-5), District 24-4A champions, toppled Pollok Central 5-3 last week and defeated Trinity 10-0 in bidistrict.
The Orangefield-Danbury winner will face either Whitney or Rogers in the regional semifinals next week.
