Cardinals to face Sweeny in best-of-three Friday and Saturday

The Bridge City Cardinals (20-9-2) will take on the Sweeny Bulldogs (22-7) in a best-of-three Class 4A Region III area round series Friday and Saturday.
Game One of the series will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. at LaPorte High School. Game Two will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Crosby High School. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.
The Cardinals knocked off Splendora 8-2 and 7-2 to capture their bidistrict series. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs, District 24-4A champions, hammered Houston Scarborough 17-0 in their bidistrict tilt. Sweeny was a state finalist last season.
The winner of the Bridge City-Columbia series will face either Liberty or Columbia in the regional quarterfinals next week.
