Panthers oust Bears in 10-inning battle

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Liberty Panthers rallied from a two-run deficit in the seventh inning and then went on to defeat the LC-M Bears 6-5 in 10 innings in Game Three to take the best-of-three Class 4A Region III bidistrict series at Don Gibbens Field Friday night.

After dropping Game One 3-1 Thursday, the Panthers (20-9) were able to down the Bears (23-10) 5-4 in Game Two to force a third battle.

Both teams battled so hard throughout the series but the Panthers were able to walk away with the tight series.

With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Tylan Danek drew a one-out walk. Danek went to second on a wild pitch and he raced in to score the winning run off a Andrew Williams RBI single to left field.

There was almost a 30-minute delay midway through the first inning due to a power outage.

The Bears got off to a tremendous start in Game Three, scoring three runs in the top of the first.

Max Dileo drove in Ty Shugart with a sacrifice fly and Anthony Bandiero followed with a standup double RBI and then he eventually scored on a Panther error.

The Panthers trimmed it to 3-1 in the bottom of the first when Keegan Turner launched a solo home run.

The Bears went up 4-1 in the top of the fourth when Jordan Alexander plated Austin Smith with a fielder’s choice RBI.

Turner answered again for the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth with another solo home run blast to make it 4-2.

Taylor Gilbert got the Bears a run back real quick in the top of the fifth when he ripped a leadoff home run to push the lead back up to 5-2.

Liberty trimmed it to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth on a Bear error.

The Panthers tied things up in the bottom of the seventh.

Caden Nolan had a leadoff double to center and Andrew Williams had a single and both scored off a Mason Goudeau single.

The Panthers captured Game Two 5-4 as Liberty pitcher Bryley Brown tossed a complete game as he scattered nine Bear hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Thayne Toomey tossed the first five innings for the Bears, allowing seven hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Liberty grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off of a Keegan Turner double.

The Bears grabbed a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the inning after Dileo scored Alexander after an error at first and Bandiero drove in a run with a RBI single past first.

J.J. Slack, who was 3-for-3, put the Panthers up 3-2 in the top of the second with a two-run double.

The Panthers’ David Hebert belted a solo home run for the Panthers in the third to make it 4-2.

The Bears tied it in the bottom of the third. Dileo hit a solo bomb over the centerfield fence and after Hunter Perkins singled, Austin Smith brought him home with a single to right.

The Panthers scored the go-ahead run in the fifth when Hebert had a one-out double to left and scored off a Brown single to left.

Max Dileo tossed the sixth inning and Anthony Bandiero threw in the seventh.

The Bears captured a 3-1 Game One victory over the Panthers at Liberty Thursday night.

Hits were hard to come by as both teams had strong pitching performances.

Anthony Bandiero got the win on the hill for the Bears (23-8) and Max Dileo nailed down yet another save in relief.

Taylor Gilbert had a hit for the Bears while Jordan Alexander scored two of the runs.
