Lamar State College Associate Dean Dr. Suzonne L. H. Crockett spoke on Saturday to the approximately 35 women who attended the Heroines of Jericho East Gate #133 inaugural April Showers, Spring Flowers Day.

Crockett delivered a powerful message on changing one’s mindset.

“Charity, love and sisterhood,” Crockett said as she incorporated the story of Rahab throughout her talk.

“As a black child, math was the only fair subject,” Crockett said. “History was opinions on who started the war. Opinions decided social reform, opinion determined which word was the correct one to use.”

In following her goal for more education, she also embellished the word of God into math.

“Einstein said the measure of intelligence is the ability to change,” Crockett said. “God tells us a wise man will change, a fool will not.”

Crockett added it was up to us to choose our destiny.

“As women, we need to own our choices,” Crockett said. “Ducks do not fly with eagles. We need to instill that into our children. We have the framework to change the mindset of those around us.”

Crockett added it was important to be in touch with the community and to serve the community.

“Have a positive mindset,” Crockett said. “It is time to serve Orange.”
