UPDATED: 18-Wheeler Crash Shuts down Interstate 10 in Orange

-FINAL UPDATE- At approximately 9:15a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County.  The crash occurred at the Womack Overpass and involved a commercial motor vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound, in the inside lane, on Interstate 10.  An 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound, in the outside lane, on Interstate 10.  The driver of the Toyota made an unsafe lane change and struck the commercial motor vehicle.  The impact of the collision caused the commercial motor vehicle to veer to the right, striking a concrete barrier.  After striking the barrier, the 18-wheeler rolled onto its side and was engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Toyota, 29-year-old Brittany Sampson of Beaumont, was transported to Baptist hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 40-year-old Kevin Vanderburgh of Converse, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, all eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 are closed and traffic is being diverted onto the feeder roads.  The roadway closure is between the Womack Overpass and Adams Bayou.  There is no time estimation as to when the roadway will reopen to traffic.  Expect delays.

Initial reports indicate that a commercial motor vehicle was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 and struck a concrete barrier.  After striking the barrier, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.  At this time, there are no confirmed reports of injuries.

All eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 are closed as crews work to clear the crash.  Motorists are urged to find an alternate travel route.  Expect delays.
