Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a non-profit which builds beds.

First United Methodist Church -Beaumont located at 701 Calder, is hosting a new chapter of Sleep SHP a 501c(3) organization.

“These are beds built by volunteers,” President of SHP Chapter 136 Jack Seely said. “The beds are ready to sleep in.”

SHP was started in 2012, and at the end of 2018 had built and delivered over 8400 beds, complete with bedding and ready to sleep in. With 137 Chapters in 40 States and growing, SHP’s goal for 2019 is to build and deliver 10,000 beds in 2019 to kids between three and 17 that don’t have a bed of their own.

SHP’s goal is “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in our Town”.

The local chapter will be delivering beds in Jefferson, Orange, and eastern Hardin Counties.

An Open House and Volunteer Build Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 27 at the FUMC Annex building located at 250 Broadway in downtown Beaumont. It is right across the street from the spotted giant fire hydrant by the Fire Museum.

A team of volunteers will be building beds.

There is an estimated two-three present of kids without beds nationwide and in our area.

To request a bed, fill out an application at SHPBeds.org

“Bed requests are all done online,” Seely said.

The organization has a goal for Saturday. It hopes to build 8,400 beds across the country during the event. All Chapters will join in hosting a local event to meet the goal.
