Burke wins Regional golf title; Bears going to State as a team

HUNTSVILLE – It was a great day for LC-M sophomore Jack Burke and the Bear golf team as they will all compete in the Class 4A State Golf Tournament after a tremendous showing at the 4A Region III Golf Championships held at Ravens Nest Golf Course in Huntsville Wednesday and Thursday.
Burke stormed his way to top individual medalist, as he walked away as the Region III champion with a 147 (72-75) over the two days.
The Bear golf team finished a solid third to qualify for the State Tournament with a two-round team score of 686 (344-342).
The Bears were five strokes better than fourth-place Midlothian Heritage (350-341).
Huffman won the team title with a 649 (327-322) while Gatesville was second with a 673 (334-339).
Miller Harris of Carthage finished second behind Burke with a 153 (75-78) and Lorena’s Corbin Conradt was third with a 155 (75-80).
After Burke Jack Tindel shot a 171 (90-81) for the Bears followed by teammates Wyatt Wozniak 184 (91-93), Mason Sterling 187 (94-93) and Travis Love 195 (91-104).
The Hardin-Jefferson boys finished a solid fifth overall after a great second round put them at 692 (360-332).
The Bears will now advance to the Class 4A State Golf Championships May 20-21 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
