PRESS RELEASE — On April 21, 2019, at approximately 7:15p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a single vehicle crash on FM 1416 in Newton County.  The crash occurred about a mile South of the community of Bon Weir.

A 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on FM 1416.  As the driver entered a curve in the road, he lost control of the motorcycle.  The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a pipe fence before coming to rest.

The driver of the motorcycle, 54-year-old Emery Roy Collins of Orange, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Connie Smith at the crash scene.

This remains an ongoing investigation as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
