At approximately 4:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County.  The crash occurred near mile marker 858 and involves a commercial motor vehicle.
Preliminary reports indicate that a dump truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 10.  For an unknown reason, the driver drifted into another lane striking a Ford flatbed truck.  After colliding with the Ford, the dump truck struck the concrete wall, rolled onto its side and was engulfed in flames.
The driver of the dump truck, a 43-year-old male from Port Arthur, was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston with extensive injuries and burns.
The driver of the Ford, a 58-year-old male from Houston, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.  Unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
At this time, Troopers are investigating that the dump truck experienced a tire blow as a contributing factor to this fatal crash.

DPS can confirm that Tony Alvarez, 58, of Houston was the driver of the Ford flatbed pickup truck that was involved in the crash on Interstate 10 yesterday.  Alvarez was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, but he was pronounced deceased a short time later at the hospital.
The driver of the dump truck, 43-year-old Leon David May II of Port Arthur, was transported to UTMB with extensive injuries and burns. Currently, May remains hospitalized.
All westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10, near mile marker 858, were closed for approximately nine hours following the crash.  All westbound traffic lanes of the Interstate reopened at 1:30 a.m. this morning.
This is an ongoing crash investigation and there are no additional details to be released.
