BRIDGE CITY – The Bridge City Cardinals continued their aspirations of snagging yet another district title as they handed the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears a 5-1 District 22-4A loss at Chuck Young Field Monday night.

The Cardinals (17-6-2, 8-1) used a stout mound performance from Logan Hamm to turn back the Bears (19-8, 6-3).

Hamm worked all seven innings on the hill for the Cardinals, scattering seven hits while striking out 10 Bears.

The Cardinals struck for a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the second to snag a 4-0 lead.

The Bears trimmed it to 4-1 in the top of the fifth after an Anthony Bandiero RBI and the Cardinals scored the last run of the night in the bottom of the fifth.

Tanner Wilson brought in two of the Cardinal runs on the night while Cameron Yadon had a RBI.

Hunter Perkins had two of the Bear hits.

The Cardinals now face a big showdown on the road in Sour Lake Tuesday against the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks with both teams tied for first-place. The game was originally scheduled for last Friday but due to too much rain, the game was moved to Tuesday.

The Hawks (13-8, 8-1) barely escaped on the road Monday, defeating WO-S (3-13-1, 0-8) 4-3.
