PRESS RELEASE —

At approximately 1 a.m., Sunday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on CR 120 in Jasper County.  The crash occurred approximately five miles West of Jasper.

Initial reports indicate that a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on CR 120.  For an unknown reason, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Jarvis Samuel Wilson of Jasper, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.

One of the passengers, a 15-year-old male from Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial hospital with minor injuries.  He has since been released from the hospital.

The second passenger, Muquala Lazenby, 17, from Orange, was transported to Jasper Memorial hospital with critical injuries. However, she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased by Dr. Brown at approximately 2:36a.m.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

Since this is crash resulted in a death, a voluntary blood specimen was obtained from the driver, Jarvis Wilson.

All information is preliminary as Troopers work to determine the factor(s) that contributed to this fatal crash.
