Eight Bobcats make Academic All-State Hoop Team

ORANGEFIELD — There is no question that the Orangefield girls and boys basketball teams got it done on and off the court.

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Association recently released its Academic All-State Teams and eight Orangefield hoopsters made the Elite list on the Class 3A All-State Academic Team.

For the Lady Bobcats, Emmi Lummus, Macie Adrio, Lacy Leach, Jayme Deutsch and Tatum Garlington each made the elite squad.

On the boys side, the Bobcats were Tyrone Waggoner, Kyle Pickard and Ethan Lozano.

To qualify for the Academic All-State Team, players must be a graduating senior, must have a 92 or above on a 100-point grading scale and a varsity letter winner.

Making the Girls Class 4A All-State Academic Team were Silsbee’s Dakota Matthews and teammate Sydni Whitted.

Making the Girls Class 2A All-State Academic Team were Hull-Daisetta’s Bailey Luke, Gabrielle Lavine and Dacey Simmons.

Joining the Bobcat boys on the 3A State Team was East Chambers’ Jayce Guillory.

In Class 4A, Hardin-Jefferson’s Mason Chirafis and Jason Persohn made the unit and in Class 5A Port Neches-Groves’ Riley Abel and Jacob Townsend made the elite unit.
