LC-M’s Burke, Dileo shining after Round 1 of 22-4A golf

BEAUMONT – Little Cypress-Mauriceville sophomore Jack Burke is leading at the District 22-4A Golf Championships after the first day while Lady Bear freshman Montana Dileo is just one stroke back at the district tournament at the Henry Homberg Golf Course.

Burke fired a sizzling first round score of 71 which gives him a three-stroke lead over Lumberton’s Payton Weems (74).

Dileo shot a superb 81 and is just a stroke back behind Hardin-Jefferson’s Elizabeth Townsend, who had an 80.

The Bear boys currently sit in second-place in the team standings after a team score of 327. H-J leads with a 318 followed by Hamshire-Fannett (338), Lumberton (382), H-J “B” (389) and Bridge City (430).

Playing solidly behind Burke were teammates Mason Sterling (84), Jack Tindel (85), Wyatt Wozniak (87) and Travis Love (93).

Randy Abate led Bridge City with a 93 followed by teammates Micah Satir (101), Matthew Murdock (115), Aadil Chakkiwala (121) and Ethan Hart (124).

The Lady Bears are solidly in second-place in the team race after firing a 421. H-J leads the field big with a 360. Silsbee is a distant third (490) followed by Bridge City (503) and H-F (515).

After Dileo for the Lady Bears was Neely Wozniak (94), Bethany Martinez (122) and Jayce Benton (124).

Cadence Underwood is pacing Bridge City with a 93 followed by teammates Hannah Kincannon (120), Abby Murchison (130) and Della Fournet (160).

The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
