WEST ORANGE — Looking to make a push to the playoffs, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals started the second half of District 22-4A play with a convincing 17-1 win in four innings over the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs Friday night at Lady Mustang Field.

The Lady Cardinals (13-9, 4-3) notched 13 hits on the night and also took advantage of eight Lady Mustangs (0-8 in district) errors to notch the victory.

Austyn Daniels got the win on the Lady Cardinal hill as she worked all four frames, scattering five hits while striking out five.

Natilee Reed, Abby Anderson and Caitlin Denison each went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Cardinals. Reed cranked out three doubles and had four runs batted in. Anderson had a pair of doubles and four RBI while Denison had a home run bomb and drove in three.

Haylle Veitch tossed all four innings for WO-S and had two strikeouts.

The Lady Cards went up 1-0 in the top of the first after Ashley Gerrald was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score on a throwing error.

The Lady Mustangs tied it up in the bottom of the first inning.

Gabby Tims, who was 2-for-2, had a leadoff single between short and third. She swiped second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.

The floodgates opened up in the top of the second frame as the Lady Cardinals sent 12 batters to plate and got five hits and took advantage of five Lady Mustang errors.

Aleah McClanahan, who was 2-for-4, got it going with a single past third. Reed had a two-run double to center and Anderson drove in a run with a double to right center. Denison had a RBI single to left and Kyndall Harrison, who was 2-for-4, had a RBI double to left as the Lady Cardinals extended their lead to 9-1.

Bridge City struck for five runs in the top of the third.

Reed and Anderson each had RBI doubles and Denison roped a line drive blast over the centerfield wall for a two-run shot as the Lady Cardinals extended it to 14-1 after three innings.

The Lady Cardinals added three runs in the top of the fourth as Reed had another RBI double and Anderson stroked a two-run single.

The Lady Cardinals return to action Monday when they visit Hamshire-Fannett. The Lady Mustangs will have their bye and will host Hamshire-Fannett next Friday.
