Another week, another pitcher of the week honor for SFA softball freshman and Bridge City native Kassidy Wilbur who claimed her second-straight Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week accolade and third of the season Monday afternoon as announced by the league office. The right-hander posted a 0.86 earned run average in 24.1 innings inside the circle last week, striking out 27 and giving up just three earned runs in three appearances and two complete games.

Wilbur tossed a total of 23 scoreless innings over the week, achieving a 2-1 record with a shutout and holding opponents to a .153 batting average. At Southeastern Conference stalwart Texas A&M Wednesday night, Wilbur struck out 10 in relief while facing 42 batters in 10 and 1/3 innings of work on the rubber. Keeping the Aggies scoreless until the final 1/3 of the bottom 15th inning, she was one of the key reasons why the game was the longest (time wise) among all Southland teams this season and the longest game for Texas A&M since 1994.

Wilbur closed out the week with her fourth complete game shutout of the season, allowing just three hits against Houston Baptist to secure the Ladyjacks’ second-straight conference series win and first league series sweep of 2019. In the 3-0 triumph over the visiting Huskies Saturday afternoon, Wilbur fanned eight of 25 total batters faced and walked just one for her 10th complete game victory of the season and 11th overall. She began the series with HBU by tallying nine strikeouts and giving up just three hits and an earned run in 31 batters faced, clinching a 3-1 SFA win.

Also named Southland Pitcher of the Week last week (March 18), Wilbur earned the weekly award on Feb. 12 after going 4-0 across the opening weekend of the season with a two-hit complete game shutout of then 24th-ranked Mississippi State. She became the program’s first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week on Feb. 12 as well, not allowing an earned run in three starts and 22 innings and setting the program record for most strikeouts by a Ladyjack making her debut with 15 in the season-opening win over Valparaiso (6-2).

Wilbur currently leads the Southland and ranks sixth among all NCAA Division I pitchers with 149 strikeouts on the year, while ranking 34th nationally in strikeouts per seven innings (8.6) and 39th in victories (11).
