Lady Bobcats batter Hardin with big hits

ORANGEFIELD — Hitting the ball all over the “yard”, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats took down the Hardin Lady Hornets 13-3 in five innings in District 22-3A softball action at Lady Bobcat Field Tuesday night.

The Lady Bobcats (16-6, 6-1), in second-place in the 22-3A standings, broke it open with a five-hit, eight-run fifth inning to put the game away. The Lady Bobcats piled up 13 hits for the night.

Hardin started out the game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Jacie Stelly drew a bases-loaded walk from Lady Bobcat ace Codie Sorge to score Kennedy Parrish.

Sorge went all five innings on the mound for Orangefield as she scattered six hits while striking out six and walking four.

The Lady Bobcats went and snared a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first.

Ryden Stanfield, who was 2-for-3, got the Lady Bobcats lined out as she took a pitch from Hardin starter Alissa Arragonno and planted it over to left centerfield fence for a solo bomb.

Olivia Grant, who was 2-for-3 followed with a single up the middle and Emma Humplik roped a double to right.

Alyssa Dodd brought in Grant with a RBI groundout. Tiffany Ciancaglione, who was 2-for-3, scored Humplik with a double to right and a Sorge RBI single up the middle plated Ciancaglione to make it 4-1.

The Lady Hornets trimmed it to 4-3 in the top half of the second frame when Parrish stroked a two-run triple to left centerfield.

The Lady Bobcats scratched in a run in the bottom of the third.

Ciancaglione had a leadoff single up the middle, eventually reached third on an error and scored off of a sacrifice fly by Heather Mineer to make it 5-3.

The flood gates opened in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Bobcats chased Arragano off the mound.

Alyssa Dodd had a leadoff single to center and Sorge reached on a one-out single. Mineer then walked to load the bases,

Hannah Dupuis ripped a RBI single past third to make it 6-3.

Madyson Hughes promptly upped it to 8-3 with a crushing two-run double to leftfield.

Stanfield kept her bat going as she cranked out a two-run double to center.

The Lady Bobcats scored a run on an error and a sacrifice fly by Ciancaglione that brought in the 12th run.

Sorge, who was 3-for-4, ended the encounter when she ripped a RBI single off Hardin reliever Haven Crump.

Arragano went 4 1/3 innings for the Lady Hornets, allowing 12 hits while walking three and fanning one.

Crump recorded one out while allowing two hits and walking two.

The game was the start of the second half of 22-3A play. The Lady Bobcats will visit first-place Buna Friday.
