Orangefield’s Catt lands on 3A All-Region Hoop Unit

Orangefield junior post Valentin Catt was recently selected to the Boys Class 3A All-Region III Basketball Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

In his first year of competitive varsity basketball, the young man delivered on both ends, especially on defense, where he challenged almost every opposing shot.

Catt averaged 15 points, 11.4 rebounds and blocked 5.1 shots a game. He upped the ante in the postseason, where he was so instrumental. In the playoffs, he notched 15 points a game, 13.3 rebounds and 14 blocks in averaging a triple-double the hard way. He had an amazing 18 blocked shots in the bidistrict playoff win over Diboll.

Catt was also the MVP of the All-Orange Leader Hoop Team after helping lead the Bobcats to a school-record 29 wins and a trip to the Region III quarterfinals.

On the girls side Orangefield senior Emmi Lummus was recently selected to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A All-Region III Team.

Lummus was recently named the Most Valuable Player on the All-District 22-3A Team and was the Orange Leader’s Defensive MVP on the All-Leader Team.

As a senior, Lummus averaged 10 points a game, to go along with five assists and five steals in helping lead the Lady Bobcats to the 22-3A crown with a perfect district mark.

LC-M’s Chelsea Perry, a junior, made the Class 4A All-Region III Team. Perry was also a first team All-District 22-4A selection and was the All-Leader Team’s Offensive MVP.

Perry filtered in nearly 17 points a game to go along with eight rebounds and five assists and will be a key cog once again going into her senior campaign after leading the Lady Bears to a 22-win season and a trip to the playoffs.

Other All-Region selections were in Class 6A Beaumont United’s Ashlei Kirvin; in Class 4A Hardin-Jefferson’s Ashlon Jackson and Tunisha Strong and Silsbee’s Dakota Matthews and Emery Maze; in Class 3A Woodville’s Jayda Argumon and Jordyn Beaty and Buna’s Burt Brook.

Other local standout boys that made the All-Region Team were in 6A Beaumont United’s Kasen Harrison; in 5A Port Arthur Memorial’s Kenneth Lofton and Nathan Clover and Nederland’s Hayden Hefner; in Class 4A Silsbee’s Jordyn Adams, Devon McCain and Braelon Bush and Hardin-Jefferson’s Bruce Green and Jason Persohn; in Class 3A East Chambers’ Kordell David and Earnest Ceasar, Buna’s Alex Connell and Newton’s Josh Foster and in Class 2A Evadale’s Jacob Splawn and West Hardin’s Lance Mosley.
