BRIDGE CITY — For the second week in a row, a Orange County track meet saw field events get washed out but that did not stop runners from flourishing at the Cardinal Relays Thursday at Larry Ward Stadium.

Just like at the Bobcat Relays in Orangefield last week, the Orangefield girls and the Nederland boys took away team titles.

Orange County tracksters faired well in the distance races.

Orangefield’s Katelynn Helm won both the 800 meters (2:23.37) and the 400 meters (61.68) while big sister Maddison Helm won both the 3,200 meters (12:06.34) and the 1,600 meters (5:45.79).

Bridge City’s Whitleigh Moreau continues to shine in the hurdles as she claimed the 100-meter hurdles (16.64). The Orangefield girls also won the 1,600-meter relay (4:20.94).

On the boys side, LC-M’s Eli Peveto captured both the 800 meters (2:03.4) and the 1,600 meters (4:27.09). WO-S’ Artavious Samuel won the 400 meters (55.06) while the Bridge City boys won the 400-meter relay.
