Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers at approximately 10:15 p.m. Tuesday received a report of a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Farm to Market Road 1136 in Orang.

The crash involved a commercial motor vehicle.

Preliminary reports, according to a press release, indicate that a passenger vehicle was stopped in the eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 when it was rear-ended by a commercial motor vehicle. Upon impact, both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

At the time of the crash, the Honda’s lighting system was not operational.
The driver of the Honda, Nicholas Alan Blanchette, 24, of Beaumont, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price at the crash scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler did not sustain any injuries.

All eastbound lanes on Interstate 10 near mile marker 870, were closed for more than 9 hours while HazMat crews worked to clear the roadway of any remaining crash debris.

DPS urges motorists to use caution while traveling in the area and stay alert for stopped or slow moving traffic.
