PORT ARTHUR — The Port Arthur Police Officer involved in the December officer-involved shooting was no-billed, Wednesday, by the Jefferson County Grand Jury indicating that his actions were deemed to be justified in the incident.

Numerous independent witnesses corroborated the officer’s account of the shooting. This incident was under investigation by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and the Port Arthur Police Department CID.

The Port Arthur Police Officer attempted to stop and detain a male subject who was walking in the roadway carrying a large weapon at the 1600 block of Kansas in Port Arthur.

The officer exited his patrol vehicle and gave the subject numerous verbal commands to drop the weapon.

The subject failed to comply with the officer’s commands and continued advancing towards him.

At this time the officer feared for his safety and fired several rounds from his service weapon striking the individual, according to a press release.

The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
